Campus Health operates two full-service pharmacies on campus and three vending machines.

Campus Health Pharmacy

Open Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. closed saturday and sunday.

Also featuring our Healthy Heels Shoppe – your Campus Health Over-the-Counter Pharmacy

The Campus Health Pharmacy and Healthy Heels Shoppe are located in the basement of Campus Health in the James A Taylor Building between UNC Hospitals and Kenan Football Stadium. Limited parking is available.

Student Stores Pharmacy 

Open Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. closed saturday and sunday.

Monday, March 10 through Thursday, March 13, Student Stores Pharmacy hours are open 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Closed Friday March 14 through Sunday March 16.

Student Stores Pharmacy is located on the 3rd floor of UNC Student Stores.

Healthy Heels To Go Vending Machines

Your favorite OTC items are conveniently available at vending machines on campus. You’ll find the Healthy Heels To Go vending machines at three locations on campus:

  • Carolina Union main floor just outside the art gallery
  • Rams Head Recreation Center foyer 
  • Gillings School of Public Health atrium

Vending machines require a One Card for payment.

Filling a New Prescription

Your provider may fax, phone, or electronically prescribe prescriptions to us, or you may bring the prescription to the pharmacy. If you would like to receive a text message when your prescription is ready for pick-up, call 919-966-6554 (Campus Health Pharmacy) or 919-966-8166 (Student Stores Pharmacy) to sign up for our prescription-ready texting service. Both pharmacies are certified to receive electronically prescribed controlled substances.

Prescription Refills

There are several ways to request your prescription refill in advance which will decrease the time spent waiting for your prescriptions:

  • Visit ReadyRefills
  • Call 919-966-6554 (Campus Health Pharmacy) or 919-966-8166 (Student Stores Pharmacy)
  • Make your refill request at the pharmacy for pick-up later

Flu and COVID-19 Vaccines

Vaccinations are offered Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 p.m. at Campus Health Pharmacy and Student Stores Pharmacy, and Saturday 11:00 am – 3:00 pm at Student Stores Pharmacy. No appointment necessary.

2024-2025 COVID-19 and flu vaccines are available by walk-in at Campus Health Pharmacy or Student Stores Pharmacy, or by appointment with immunizations. Bring your insurance card (Medicare plans not accepted).

Pharmacist-Provided Contraception

Pharmacists at Campus Health Pharmacy and Student Stores Pharmacy are able to provide prescriptions for birth control pills and the birth control patch for a convenience charge of $30.  This convenience charge is not billable to insurance.  No appointment is required; come at your convenience between 9 am and 5 pm Monday – Friday to either pharmacy.

The pharmacist will review the completed questionnaire with you, check your blood pressure, and discuss your preferred options.  If a birth control pill or the patch is decided upon, the pharmacist will provide a year-long prescription and will fill your prescription for a one- to three-month supply according to your insurance benefit plan. Benefits of On-Campus Pharmacies

Low Copays: If you have the UNC System-Wide Student Health Insurance Plan, your copay for prescription drugs filled at Campus Health Pharmacy or Student Stores Pharmacy is only $10-$15 per 1 month supply and most contraceptive prescriptions are available at a $0 copay.

Low-Cost Medications: Some low-cost medications may be available from pharmacies at cash prices that are lower than your copay.  See the $4/$10 cash price list for Campus Health Pharmacy and Student Stores Pharmacy.

Low-Cost Over-the-Counter Items: Visit the Healthy Heels Shoppe (at Campus Health Pharmacy), Student Stores Pharmacy, or the Healthy Heels To Go vending machines in the Carolina Union, Gillings School of Public Health, and Rams Head Recreation for a variety of items that can be purchased without a prescription including cough, cold, and allergy medications, first aid supplies, skincare products, Plan B emergency contraception, home COVID-19 tests and travel supplies.  These items are available at a very low cost compared to most retail pharmacies, and charges for these items can be transferred to your student account.
