Well Woman's Exam

What is a Well
Woman’s Exam?
This exam is offered to women or female-identified
individuals to discuss health history and reproductive health care needs, and
may include a physical exam, weight and blood pressure check, clinical breast
exam, optional pelvic exam and various tests for sexually transmitted infections. Women 21 and over will be offered a pap smear
every 1-3 years, depending on age.
Who gets one and when
should they start?
Any woman can schedule this
appointment, pending eligibility for services at CHS.
How often do I need
to get a Well Woman’s Exam?
Every 1-3 years.
How much does the
exam cost?
The student fee covers unlimited
visits to Campus Health Services, but procedures and lab tests sent out of the
building are dependent on insurance coverage.
What is the
difference between a pap smear and a Well
Woman’s Exam?
The Women’s Exam is done to check
your overall physical health and the pap smear screens for cervical cancer. A pap smear is often done as part of a Well Woman’s
Exam.
Why is it important
to have a Well Woman’s Exam regularly?
Regular examinations encourage and
promote healthy living and prevention of common illnesses. Yearly visits to review personal and family
risk factors provide opportunity to discuss future family planning.
Where can I get a
Well Woman’s Exam?
A Well Woman’s Exam is offered at
Campus Health Service throughout the year. Other
community clinics and the UNC Hospital do offer similar routine exams (cost
dependent on your insurance).
