RA Health Programming Guide – Sleep

Sleep is something we all need, but sometimes it gets
neglected. Help your residents feel well rested with this workshop!
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of the course, participants
will be able to:
- Understand
a few of the basic ways that sleep affects our minds and bodies
- Understand
how some behaviors affect sleep and vice versa
Materials:
Laptop/projector, chosen activity materials
Preparation:
Gather relevant activity materials.
Workshop:
This
workshop is designed to last about 30 -
45 minutes. There is a short (approximately 10 minute) PowerPoint available that explains why sleep is important for
college students and how some of our daily habits affect our ability to sleep.
The Sleep Quiz and/or the Sleep Preferences Game would be useful tools to use
prior to the presentation (or discussion, if just using the PowerPoint as a
reference) as they help participants reflect on their personal behaviors. The
bulk of the workshop is intended to be more experiential.
Though it is not a posted activity, one fun suggestion is to
review some of the basic sleep information from the PowerPoint before heading
over as a group to one of the yoga classes offered for free to students through
Campus Rec. Just be sure you get there early if you have a big group.
