FAQ About ITC

What is the committment like for ITC members?
ITC rehearses as a full ensemble once a week on Mondays from 5 – 7. On top of that, students rehearse for specific performances as they are available. After being in the ensemble for one semester, student actors are eligible to take the Interactive Theatre Carolina course (COMM 260-2) to earn college credit for your work in ITC or to become a PAID member of the ensemble.
Do I have to be an actor (i.e. have previous performance experience) to audition for ITC?
No, you don’t have to be an actor. If you have a passion for social justice and are comfortable presenting in front of a crowd, we can work with you.
Can I request a scene about a topic other than the ones already developed?
YES! Once or twice a year ITC will take specific requests to develop a brand new scene. However, because the development of new scripts is an incredibly time intensive process we need to allow time for initial meetings, focus groups, and feedback on early drafts.
Who has ITC worked with in the past?
Some partners include:
- Carolina New Student Orientation
- Carolina United
- Duke University
- Carolina Women's Center
- UNC Greek Life
- School of Social Work
- School of Nursing
- Black Student Movement (BSM)
- LGBTIQ Center
- Project Uplift
- and classes within numerous departments including Drama, Public Health, Women's Studies, and African-American Studies
What is the difference between an ITC performance and an ITC workshop?
ITC Performances us a pre-written scripted scene as the groundwork for discussion. With ITC workshops, instead of using a scene to spark discussion, the workshop participants will be asked to engage in a variety of Image Theatre activities (creating human sculptures and powerful still images) that then serve as a catalyst for discussion.
How long is an ITC performance/workshop?
In general, ITC workshops and performances last 1.5 hours.
Can I bring ITC to a non-campus event?
Yes! In alignment with UNC's community outreach plan, ITC is always looking for ways to get more involved with the local community. Send us an email and we'll try to make it work.
