Signs of Sexual Assault
Warning Signs Leading Up to Sexual Assault
- Isolating someone from their friends
- Pressuring someone to drink or use drugs
- Ignoring refusals of any kind and/or using pressure for sexual contact
- Giving
someone alcohol or drugs (including Rohypnol or other “date rape
drugs”) in order to have sex (oral, anal, vaginal) with them
Signs Sexual Assault is occurring or has occurred:
- Having sex with someone who is asleep, unconscious, or blacked out
- Pressuring someone to engage in sexual behaviors she/he/ze is not ready for
- Forcing someone to have sex

Signs of Emotional Abuse
- Isolation: Distancing partner from family and friends
Telling partner who he/she can and cannot see - Put downs: Criticizing, Insulting, Humiliation
- Control: Needing
to know where partner is at all times, threatening to hurt self as a
manipulation to keep partner in relationship, being possessive, making
all decisions, telling partner how to dress (more or less revealing than
would otherwise), making threats, making partner feel guilty
Signs of Physical Abuse
Any of the following actions, or threatening to do the following:
- Pushing or shoving someone
- Throwing objects or destroying property
- Restraining someone from leaving
- Hitting someone
- Hitting the wall in anger
- Using a knife or a gun on someone
- Leaving or abandoning someone in an unsafe place
Signs of Stalking
- Contacting someone via phone (including hang-ups), email or text messaging
- Showing up unexpectedly to check up on someone at work, home, or school
- Knowing things about someone’s life / schedule which was not shared with them
- Going through someone’s stuff, hacking into their computer, etc.
- Damaging someone’s property to create fear
- Sending unwanted gifts, cards, letters, etc.
- Following someone
