The health care and education of the students on the UNC Chapel Hill campus are the primary focus and mission of the Nursing Department at the Campus Health Services. Our nurses have working knowledge of the stresses that face the student population and the benefit that education plays in supporting healthy lifestyle choices. Our goal, as College Health nurses, is to provide timely, compassionate, efficient and quality care to the students we serve. The Nursing staff at Campus Health Services is comprised of Medical Assistants, Nursing Assistants and Registered Nurses. Our nursing staff have successfully completed the national cognitive and skills evaluation set forth by the American Heart Association. The Nursing Department collaborates with the UNC Chapel Hill School of Nursing as an approved clinical training site for undergraduate and graduate nursing students and our Nurses play a vital role in precepting these individuals. Throughout the year, the Campus Health Services Nursing Department provides various outreach activities to promote services offered at our health care setting, to increase student awareness about importance of healthy lifestyle choices and to reduce the risk and transmission of infections. Some examples of these opportunities include informational fairs for the professional, health science and allied health schools, the Area and Community Directors for Residence Life, and for the international and study abroad programs; health care screening fairs (blood pressure, diabetes management, infection control measures, cancer, general health, cholesterol screening, nutrition/fitness, etc.); and immunization and prevention clinics (meningitis and influenza vaccine). |
