INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL CLINIC $25.00

Last International Travel Clinic appointment for Fall semester is Wednesday, December 16, 2009.

travel1botswana.jpgCall for an appointment 3-6 months prior to travel, or as soon as you know your plans. It takes advanced planning to get fully vaccinated.

International Travel Clinic hours during Fall and Spring semesters are Wednesday and Thursday from 12:30-1:30pm. Summer appointment times are variable during summer months. Note: there is no Travel Clinic the week of July 4th. Travel precautions and common medications are discussed as a group. Individual time for questions and answers is provided.

Immunizations are given at the end of the travel appointment or you may  schedule an immunization appointment at a later date. Call 966-6573 for travel immunization scheduling.

Group Consultations: A special group consultation can be arranged for groups traveling together to the same location. Please call as soon as you are considering a group session. Remember that the optimum time for a consultation is at least 3-6 months prior to departure. The Travel Clinic staff must have at least 3 weeks to prepare for a group. Please make arrangements at least 3-6 months prior to your trip. Call 966-6573 to arrange the group consultation. There is no reduction in fees for classes for groups traveling to the same location.

To learn more about medications, safe travel tips, and immunizations based upon your selected itinerary, visit the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) at http://www.cdc.gov/travel.

Download the Travel Questionnaire, which is available in Adobe Acrobat Reader (PDF) format. Print it out, and fax it to 919.843.6910 at least 2 weeks prior to your appointment.

Note about vaccine records! CHS has a record of your vaccines required when you enrolled and also other vaccines that you have received at CHS. If you have received immunizations elsewhere, please make a note of these on the questionnaire.

Call 966-6573 from 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday-Friday to make an International Travel Clinic appointment. Appointments are available on Wednesday and Thursday from 12:30pm-1:30pm during Fall and Spring semesters. Remember to ask about times available during the summer.There is a charge of $25.00 for the travel consultation. Maximum class size is 30 students. You will be charged a "no- show" fee of $10.00 if you fail to keep your appointment unless you cancel or reschedule 24 hours in advance. There are additional charges for immunizations and medications.

Please allow at least 2 hours for the appointment and immunizations.

Your Travel Nurse Consultant evaluates your medical risks based on your specific itinerary and personal health history, discusses detailed information regarding disease prevention, including immunization recommendations, prescription medications, and other health and safety precautions for your trip, and refers you for an appointment with a medical provider if you have a chronic illness or special concerns. Selected travel vaccines will be given by CHS staff at the end of the group appointment.

It is advised to fill your prescriptions shortly after your pre-travel consultation to avoid problems nearer your departure date. Required travel prescriptions are taken to the CHS Pharmacy and will be available for pick-up the day after your travel appointment.

If you have traveled to a country with risk of malaria, continue your malaria preventive medication for the specified time. If you see a medical provider, be sure to tell him/her where and when you have traveled.
