No smoking on Campus??? Now that its getting harder and harder to light up…Would you like to stop?
Campus Health Services can help!
We have Nicotine replacement therapy available over the counter in our Pharmacy in the forms of the Commit® Lozenge, Nicotine Mint Gum, Nicorelief® Gum, Nicotine Transdermal System Patch. Nicotine replacement therapy allows you to dose yourself with nicotine orally so that you will no longer need to smoke to get nicotine. Once the smoking habit is broken the nicotine replacement therapy is designed to be tapered off slowly to avoid withdrawal symptoms and cravings.
If that doesn’t work of if you feel you may need more substantial treatment Chantix® tablets are available by prescription through any of the general health care providers in the medical clinics. Chantix blocks the nicotine receptors so that smoking is no longer pleasurable.
Studies show that the best response in college students wishing to stop smoking results from a combination of drug therapy, individual counseling and group counseling. If you desire counseling to help you stop smoking you may be interested in FreshStart: A Stop Smoking Group or you may come in to Counseling and Wellness Services and be seen by a therapist who can direct you to the best treatment suited for you. Additional information and answers to some frequently asked questions may be found on UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Environment, Health and Safety website's Stay Healthy: Quitting Smoking page. |
