A relationship is like two people in a canoe traveling down a body of water. The body of water can be a placid lake in a beautiful outdoor setting or a raging river with boulders and white water rapids.


One has to know how to navigate the canoe so that the relationship doesn't stagnate or end up "on the rocks". To do so one needs relationship skills, the oars for the canoe.

The following are some basic relationship skills that can help you to navigate the often unpredictable turbulence of relationships and in the process get to know yourself better. These skills are meant to apply to all kinds of relationships with family, friends, roommates, coworkers, as well as with romantic partners.
