P.A.S.S., (Peak Academic Success and Satisfaction) began as a Counseling and Psychological Services program that was designed to support U.N.C. students in reaching their academic goals.It has become a collaborative program, no mostly run through Housing and Residential Education.

P.A.S.S. believes that every student at Carolina has the potential to succeed academically. UNC students are smart and talented; but being smart, talented, and even hard-working is not always a guarantee of success or satisfaction.  There are many other factors that are related to wellness, coping, life skills and resiliency that help determine a student’s success.

The P.A.S.S. model is based on the belief that you will be more likely to realize your potential, will perform better and will enjoy your academics most when:File 1256

  • you have clear academic goals based on your own values, academic interests, career goals, and life aspirations;
  • when you possess well developed skills;
  • when you develop your own personal strength;
  • when you are able to identify and decrease the impediments to your success;
  • and when you are able to balance stress sufficiently to remain motivated and engaged with your academic work.

P.A.S.S. is designed to offer students resources, skills training, and support to help you to identify your goals, hone your academic skills and stay engaged with your work. P.A.S.S. promotes working smarter, not just harder, by helping students to determine what you individually need to succeed, which of the many campus resources would be appropriate to meet your needs and making it easier for you to access and use those resources.
